da imperador bet: Summary: Carlos Tevez produced a moment of late brilliance to secure a narrow 1-0 victory for Manchester City against Wigan at the Etihad Stadium.
da jogodeouro: In a dress rehearsal for the FA Cup final next month City struggled to break down Roberto Martinez’s resolute side who remain in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety.
For Roberto Mancini’s side the win moves them to within 13 points of arch rivals Manchester United at the top and keeps alive their feint hopes of successfully defending their Premier League title.
The first half was a surprisingly low-key affair with Wigan starting in confident fashion and appeared unfazed by their opposition and the task that lay in front of them. In fact it was the visitors who created the best opening before the break with Arouna Kone and Shaun Maloney setting up Franco Di Santo, who beat two defenders, but couldn’t get the better of goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Maloney did manage to beat Hart from a tight angle early in the second half only for Joleon Lescott to clear off the line before Paul Scharner headed against the bar later on. And their failure to convert their chances was eventually punished by Tevez.
The Argentinian somehow managed to beat three Wigan defenders on the edge of the area before curling a sublime strike into the top corner beyond Joel for his eighth goal in nine games.
Roberto Mancini post-match…”I was not frustrated. It was a difficult game because we played three days ago and Wigan play good football. We were so tired and didn’t play well in the first half. In the second half we started so so but in the last 20 minutes we finished well.”
Roberto Martinez post-match…”It’s a performance to be proud of and when you play against a team like Manchester City you have to accept a goal with that piece of magic, but from a football – and tactical point of view – we were better in every department and deserved the points.”
Good night for…Carlos Tevez: A beacon of light on a frustrating evening for City. Always a willing runner and never gave the Wigan back four room to breathe for the entire 90 minutes. A more than worthy match winner, whose goal encapsulated his brilliance.
Bad night for…Aleksandar Kolarov: A thoroughly forgettable night for the Serbian left back who, despite ending up on the winning side, was just not at the races. His usually excellent final ball was severely lacking, while the same could be said about his defending.
