da dobrowin: As reported by The Daily Mail, Rangers defender Russell Martin has insisted that striker Alfredo Morelos remains as committed as ever to the club despite reports linking him with a move away from Ibrox.
What’s the story?
da mrbet: Morelos was the subject of intense transfer speculation in the closing days of the January transfer window with the likes of Sky Sports reporting that a Chinese side had bid a massive £8m to bring him to Asia.
While still a Rangers player, some fans are worried that he might have has had his head turned and perform to levels below the norm for him so far this season.
However, new teammate Russell Martin has been quick to rush to his defence, praising his performance against Hibernian at the weekend and believing that there’s been no difference in terms of the player’s mood.
As quoted by The Daily Mail, the Scotland international said:
There has been no difference in him. If his attitude was wrong on the training pitch and he had been sulking about then of course there would be a need to pull him aside and have a chat, but he hasn’t been like that at all so I don’t think there’s been a need to really.
That’ll be good news for supporters who know that keeping the Colombian in form is vital to their ambitions this season.
How important is he?
With 13 goals so far, Morelos has undoubtedly been a key man for the Light Blues this season, with only Josh Windass rivalling him in terms of raw attacking contribution.
The race for second place in the Scottish Premiership is fiercer than ever after Aberdeen opened up a three point gap over third-placed Rangers at the weekend and if Graeme Murty is to improve on last season’s league position and compete for the Scottish Cup, he needs a happy and in-form Morelos at his disposal.
Jason Cummings may be a suitable goalscoring replacement should the Colombian leave, but right now Morelos is the main man and he needs to continue playing and get back in amongst the goals.
