da dobrowin: This summer, West Ham have spent big money on Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko, but manager Manuel Pellegrini could demand at least one more expensive signing to be made before the transfer window closes.
da dobrowin: The Hammers continue to be linked with a move for a striker and, Porto’s Moussa Marega is one potential candidate, according to Sky Sports.
However, midfield could be the position Pellegrini goes all out to strengthen ahead of next Thursday’s deadline.
The Breakdown
ESport3 (via Fansided) reports West Ham have approached Barcelona over the signing of Andre Gomes, who is valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt.
Gomes was already on the fringes of Barcelona’s squad, but the expected arrival of Arturo Vidal at the Nou Camp (via Barcelona’s official club website) is set to push the Portugal international even further down Ernesto Valverde’s pecking order.
Looking at West Ham’s current options for the middle of the park, a midfielder of Gomes’ profile may not be exactly what they need in this moment of time.
Signing the former Valencia man, though, is too much of a good opportunity to turn down.
The Portuguese playmaker is the kind of player capable of moving the ball quickly and forwards and will be able to carve out chances for the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Anderson and Yarmolenko.
If Pellegrini is looking to reinforce his midfield in the coming days, his priority should probably be a ball-winning midfielder, but the Chilean should still try to take advantage of Gomes’ Barcelona conundrum.
