da pixbet: Former Crystal Palace striker Neil Shipperley would have liked Charlie Austin to move to Selhurst Park in the summer transfer window.
What did he say?
The former QPR forward eventually left the Saints to join West Bromwich Albion in a £4m deal, but when we spoke to Shipperley before the deal was announced he seemed eager for the Eagles to secure a deal.
The south London outfit were reportedly involved in a four-way tussle for his signature with Aston Villa, Fulham and, of course, his eventual suitors West Brom.
While speaking exclusively to Football FanCast when Austin’s future was still up in the air, the 44-year-old said: “I’ve been hoping Palace would go in for Austin to be honest.
“I think he’s quite a good player and he does a lot of work off the ball.
“I think he’d do a job for Palace.”

Still has something to give
Last season was one to forget for Austin, as he scored just three times in 27 appearances for the south-coast outfit.
However, he is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and has netted a respectable 34 goals in 106 games in England’s top tier.
In the 2014/15 campaign he was particularly impressive, netting on 18 occasions in 35 matches for QPR, though his efforts couldn’t prevent them from finishing bottom of the table.
He has suffered from injuries in recent campaigns, which have denied him the opportunity to push on from that stellar season five years ago.
However, he is still only 30 and, as Shipperley said, could still prove valuable to a side like Palace.
Finishing has always been Austin’s greatest strength – he’s a natural goalscorer – and at just £4m would have been a decent value for money squad player, or even a regular starter given Palace’s woes in front of goal.
